knit like the wind! Jun. 21st, 2005 @ 07:55 am
did you know that the fastest knitter in the world is hazel tindall of the sheltand islands, at an amazing 255 stitches in just THREE MINUTES?  if i could knit that fast, i could finish my sweater, regardless of just having had a baby :)  the american record holder is kaete brady of new hampshire, at a mere 215 stitches in three minutes.  whew!  i wonder if they get yarn burn?

today is worldwide knit in public day! Jun. 11th, 2005 @ 12:36 pm

not that i have been able to knit, or be in public, since maya was born, but today is worldwide KIP day!

wow.  i just noticed that it's coming down with a fury outside.  see, i wouldn't even want to go out in public today.  it sounds like a tornado or something.

kind of wishing that i wasn't stone dead tired.  kind of wishing that i *did* have ten minutes to knit.  maybe soon.  after everything calms down around here.

i love that hubby of mine.  i love that baby of mine, too.

nope, i haven't been knitting Jun. 8th, 2005 @ 03:39 pm

» project progress

well, mom's cardigan has taken more brain power than i had hoped.  for some reason, this pattern has been a complete puzzle for me, resulting in three or four frogging sessions, and one, only one, completed piece.  which is a sleeve, no less.  but a perfect sleeve, and that's really what's important, isn't it?

the cable blanket is still on the back burner.

i have decided to try, again, to make something for myself.  i am not sure why this is so difficult, but i've never actually made anything for myself, much less a sweater.  i make them for other people, not me.  but we have been going through all of our old clothes, trying to get rid of things to make room for the baby, and i had to get rid of several completely worn out cardigans.  i love cardigans.  so i figure, hey, that's the perfect project.  a cardigan.  i've decided on a very cute three-quarter sleeve eyelet pattern number, but haven't decided on the color yet.  basically, i wear things that are black.  i like black.  but i cannot fathom whipping up an entire black cardigan.  on size 3 needles, no less.  but would i wear a red cardigan, for instance?  a green one?  well, that's a bad question.  i actually have a green cardigan.  hmmm.

i like black.

tell me what color my cardigan should be.  i need help!

» bunnies

check it out!!  a whole blog devoted to knitting bunnies.  i, of course, must knit one now.

in other news, the only thing i have left on the baby cardigan is sewing up the seams, putting on the buttons, and blocking.  which is the least fun, so i've moved on to other projects while i wait to get excited about finally finishing it.

in other project land, i'm working on a very sweet cabled baby blanket out of baby pink merino that my parents brought home from italy.  ahh, the international language of knitting!!!  i'm three skeins into an eight skein blanket.  cabling goes fast, but in the midst of working on it i got distracted by a sweater for my mom.

she was in portland the other day, trying on all these cardigans, and i kept saying, "i could make that!"  "i could make that better!"  and, "for heaven's sake, that is the worst quality yarn i have ever seen!"  i finally convinced her to let me knit her a sweater instead, and we went to lint to pick up some lovely 'pink-a-boo' cotton fleece yarn to whip up a gorgeous cardigan in rebecca 27 (it's the one with the ribbing at the bottom).

A little old fashioned, and a little modern.

A little traditional, and a little bit punk rock.

» knittin' pretty

okay, [info]zevhonith , i have found a reason to actually keep this blog.  knitting!  which, besides [info]onlyabunny , the fabulous miss m, and our little crazy luckycat, is my true love.

yesterday i went out to purchase some buttons to finish some diaper soakers for miss m, and while at the yarn store i spied with my little eyes a NEW debbie bliss knitting book for babies.  now, i love me some debbie bliss.  so i had to get it, of course.  and then i managed to find a charming little design in said book that i could knit right up in just two skeins of lovely taupe debbie bliss baby cashmerino.  mmmm.  cashmere.  merino.  soooooft.  i love to knit for babies- the projects are just so damn cute, and they are extremely gratifying because they finish up so fast.  i mean, i'm already halfway up the back of this cardigan.  how cool is that?

and no, i didn't manage to actually get any buttons.
